Theological Education Market Research Consultant 

Part-time, accepting applications from individuals or consulting groups for a 6-month contract October 2021-April 2022, with the possibility of extension based on funding. The Beyond These Walls collective, in partnership with the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Michigan, seeks a consultant or consulting group to conduct market research for the need and scope of alternative models of leadership development for theological education.


The Beyond These Walls collective is uniquely positioned to provide leadership training in this context because we collectively bring wide-ranging expertise to the formational environment. Accomplished theological educators lead the Beyond These Walls collective and represent Black, White, African, Latinx, Indigenous, and Korean backgrounds. We are straight and LGBTQ and teach in urban, suburban, and rural contexts, across the spectrum of traditional theological disciplines. We are academically trained artists, activists, administrators, church leaders, and theological educators.

 
We are seeking a consultant who embraces this expansive and inclusive vision of theological education and who can support this team of scholars, educators, and faith leaders by providing foundational market research for the project.

RESPONSIPBILITIES

  • Conducting focus groups and interviewing stakeholders 

  • Surveying existing models of theological education 

  • Reviewing emerging pedagogies and delivery systems

  • Building  and assessing community interest

  • Collaborating with members of the Beyond These Walls collective

  • Evaluating proposed curriculum design on the basis of market research

  • Designing ongoing program assessment for long-term planning

  • Assisting Beyond These Walls to achieve and track grant deliverables

  • Regularly summarizing findings for both grant reports and the Beyond These Walls collective

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five plus years of relevant experience in all or most of these categories: program development and implementation, outreach methodologies and organizing, and theological education 

  • Well-versed in community-based programs and antiracism work

  • Passion for theological education, a healthy work ethic and collaborative spirit

  • Ability to effectively communicate and work with internal and external individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds, religious traditions, and political beliefs

  • Strong writing and public speaking skills

  • Exceptional ability to organize and pay attention to detail

  • Creative spirit and willingness to learn and grow

  • Experience working with a diversity of clergy, spiritual leaders, lay leaders, Houses of Worship, and seminaries

  • Advanced computer skills, including familiarity with databases

HOURS & COMPENSATION

We are seeking a consultant or consulting group to work approximately 20 hours per week over the course of six months. Available budget will allow for an hourly rate of $40-$70, commensurate with experience.
